SWING WITH YOUR FEET
Aimed at all levels of Tap Dancer but those who would specifically like to have guidance for improvising in a live Jazz setting... which is my Forte.
For those of you that don't know me, I am a drummer of , dare I say 40 years covering many musical situations.
I have been the MD and my trio has played for the London Tap Jam for 15 years!
I also run my band MDJTP with Rhythm tap dancers for 10 years.
So as you can imagine we have a pretty good idea of what's needed when working in a Jazz situation with Rhythm Tap Dancers.
Just a few of the things we will cover if we have time.
You will learn about basic music notation. Table of note values.
Taking a simple figure and developing it by Displacing phrases across the bar.
Drum Rudiments applied to tap dancers.
Learn a classic Jazz standard , the form and when to trade.
Listening to music.... taking ideas from the musicians.
Trading, call and response.
Analyze a classic Jazz drum solo.
Communicating with the band.
Jazz standards.
The space is as important as the notes and why this is such a crucial point.
